IWJG April 2013 New York Show Report

New York was the largest Spring New York Show ever for the IWJG. More table holders, more, attendees, more guests, and more new members than ever before. The show started off with a nice buzz on Monday morning and grew to a high pitch and continued all day, right up to closing.

Las Vegas drives us crazy. First day lines at any other show are the accepted thing. Las Vegas is so slow to start on both days, it drives us nuts!

Most all of our membership looked a little road weary. In spite of that, the fact is that Orlando is a good show that attracts a lot of dealers from the Southeast that attend few other Watch and Jewelry Shows.

How about that IWJG Miami January 2013 show! This show was a record breaker in many ways. Instead of hype, let us just tell you what we heard from our members on the floor. Howard Bilford, Alberto Salinas, and Ira Mish all turned in good show reports. Gregg Esses, Richard Markowitz, and Pamela Benson (only her second show) had good shows.

IWJG January 2013 Las Vegas Show Report

The first day of any Las Vegas Show drives us crazy. The members are slow coming in (No one is banging on the door to get in earlier than 7:30). The buzz doesn't start until around 10:00 AM, then it builds throughout the day. That was just the way it went in Las Vegas this time. The action might start a little slow but when it gets started it really gets started.

The New York show on October 22 & 23 at the Marriott Brooklyn Bridge started off on Monday morning at 7:30AM with a buzz and throughout the day, grew into a roar. Over 1,100 members and guests were in attendance.

The streets were all dry. The drainage channels were all practically dry. Traffic was moving in normal fashion. What a difference from Tuesday when a monsoon storm that hit dumped two inches of rain on Sin City and brought everything to a complete halt.

It was great to be back in New York. The weather cooperated and except for one little sprinkle it was perfect. The antique show got out of synch with the JANY Show and we had to choose one of them so since we get more overflow from the antique show, we followed that show.

If you missed the Las Vegas May Show, we do not know what to tell you except you really missed a great show. From the opening on Monday morning until we threatened to turn the lights out on Tuesday night, the room was buzzing with electricity that made the hairs stand up on your arm.

What a start to the 2012 New Year... A very good show in Las Vegas was followed by a GREAT Show in Miami! The International Watch and Jewelry Guild Show at the Hilton in Miami was a complete sell out. Over 1,100 members/dealers plus guests made this the largest Miami Show in IWJG history.

The show kicked off in the all new Pavilion Ballroom at the Tropicana. We have a few things to work out in the space (extra lighting is one) but the great thing is that it can accommodate the IWJG for several years to come even with the growth we have been experiencing. The Tropicana is committed to making the IWJG comfortable in the new space so if you have any ideas please let us know so we can pass them on to the hotel.

Los Angeles was a great success, plain and simple. All of our Summer Shows for 2011 have been great! First, Chicago in June, showed very strong growth. Then New York in July was our largest New York Show ever! Now Los Angeles is a whopping 400% increase over our August Show in Atlanta in 2010.

The International Watch and Jewelry Guild Show on July 27th and 28th at the Metro Pavilion in New York City, was not to be missed. We hope you were there. It was a New York City record for the IWJG. We had almost 1000 dealers and guests attending the Show. Were sold out of tables, safes, cases and anything else we could bring to New York. It was an amazing show.

Chicago was obviously smaller than Las Vegas but sometimes our dealers tell us that they do better at our shows that are not quite so large. The list of International Watch and Jewelry Guild members that made a point of telling us that they had a very good show was amazing.

The International Watch and Jewelry Guild announces their Summer Expo 2011 will be held in Chicago on June 27th and 28th, 2011. The venue for the show will be the Crowne Plaza O’Hare Hotel and Conference Center, at 5440 North River Road, Rosemont Il. 60018. The members and guests only IWJG Show is already 20% larger than last year’s Chicago event.

The Marriott at Brooklyn Bridge could not have been any better. Great sleeping rooms, great ballroom, friendly hotel staff and 6 minutes from little Italy and Chinatown by cab. Great Location! Great Show! Do not take my word for it, ask your fellow members. Here is what we’ve heard so far.

The new Tropicana is going to be great for the IWJG according to the members’ feedback we received. Nikki’s Beach and several of the “still under construction “features will be in place by the time we return in September. Fred Hakimian reports that he sold and bought a lot of merchandise. Fred advises that Diamonds can be all over the place so make sure you know what the market is whether you are buying or selling. California member Gabe Arik reports he bought a lot of diamonds. Fred and Gabe expect prices to remain strong for stones. The deal is, if you want to sell a stone at anywhere near market value, it is moving on the IWJG floor. No if’s ands or buts! Jewelry and Diamonds are hot!!

IWJG February 2011 Orlando Show Report

Most of you know Orlando came just nineteen days after Miami. We like to have at least 3 to 4 weeks between shows, but because many of our members like to attend more than one show on a trip (when they can) these dates had to hold... it could not be helped. Even so, the Orlando Show was VERY, VERY GOOD! Some even said it was TREMENDOUS! The venue, the Marriott World Center, could not have been nicer. Friendly people, gorgeous facility, 10 pools (we could not keep Fred Hakimian and his wife out of the water), very good restaurants and Vikens card game. What else do you need!!!

Before the January 2011 Miami International Watch and Jewelry Guild Show, we sent out a weather alert. The forecast called for below freezing temperatures and snow in the Northern United States and the same for Northern Europe. We missed Dallas,Texas buried under a blanket of deep snow BUT we got Miami right! Balmy 75 to 80 degrees and the action at the IWJG Show was Hot! Hot! Hot!

Holy Mackerel…If you were not in Las Vegas for the International Watch and Jewelry Guild first show of 2011.. I’m not sure what to tell you… Maybe you should ask Texas member Bob Wingate who could not stop laughing and sending pictures of the piles of cash he took in to members (including Joe DeMesy), who were not in attendance.
